Magog at a Glance
At the foot of Mount Orford and beside a clear lake and rolling river, Magog's
location has caused its transformation from a lonely trading post into one of
Quebec's most popular resort destinations
of today, where activites of all types suit both the avid outdoorsman and cultured
traveller.
Mount
Orford Ski Area encompasses three separate mountains, and 56 runs challenge
both snowboarders and skiers. Summertime melts away the thick snowpack to reveal
hiking and biking
trails, and residents and visitors take advantage of the city's placid Lake
Memphremagog. Tales of a resident monster named Memphre living in the lake's
waters are temptingly believable, and its two beaches
are often dotted with mystery-lovers with camera in hand. In the fall, the Flaming
Colours festival celebrates the reds, yellows and oranges of the changing
forest, and fine foods and wines are consumed with pleasure at the Orford
Grape Festival. A strong arts
scene demands the city be discovered, orchard
and winery
tours tempt the pickiest palates, and antique
shops as well as artisan
markets are full of undiscovered treasures.
